Somaiya Vidyavihar University gets recognized as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (SIRO)

Mumbai, September 14, 2022: The Somaiya Vidyavihar University, Mumbai attains recognition as a ‘Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation’ (SIRO) by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research under the scheme on the recognition of ‘Scientific and Industrial Research Organisations’ (SIROs), 1988.


Somaiya Vidyavihar University will undertake activities for the extension of knowledge in the field of natural and applied sciences, agricultural, medical and social sciences and will be recognized as a ‘SIRO’ for a period of three years – 29th July 2022 to 31st March 2025.


The Recognition Scheme for Scientific and Industrial Research Organisations (SIROs) aims to promote activities in the area of scientific and industrial research. The main focus would be on the design and development of indigenous technology to achieve technological self-reliance and minimise foreign inputs. 


Dr Mayur C Yergiri, Dean Research, Somaiya Vidyavihar University said, "We are delighted to share that the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR),  Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India under the scheme of Science and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) has recognized Somaiya Vidyavihar University as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO). This recognition to Somaiya Vidyavihar University will help in achieving our mission and goal to establish as an Research and Innovation University in the coming years. This recognition will promote and encourage scientific research and innovation activities among students and faculty."
