A Memorandum of Understandingn(MoU) was signed between Preah Sihanouk Rāja Buddhist University (SBU) and Somaiya Vidyavihar University, Mumbai, India.
The signing ceremony was held in the presence of Dr Devyani Khobragade, Ambassador of India, Pen Vibol, Secretary of state, Ministry of Cults and Religion and Preah Putdhavongsa HOU Chivneath, Deputy General Inspector of National Buddhist Education.
The MoU aims to create an academic platform to engage young students and faculty to develop capacity for supporting overall development of quality and modern system of education.
The activities under the MoU include conducting cross-institutional research, faculty exchanges, and special projects with a focus on several disciplines of studies.
Dr. Ven.Yon Seng Yeth, Acting Rector of Preah Sihanouk Rāja Buddhist University in his remarks, thanked the Embassy of India and Somaiya Vidyavihar University, Mumbai for their initiative for the MoU. He said that the cooperation will be beneficial for young Buddhist Monks, students and staff in their learning and research.
Dr. Nandkumar Gilke, Registrar, Somaiya Vidyavihar University, Mumbai in his remarks conveyed his gratitude to SBU and Embassy of India.
He said the purpose of this MOU is to strengthen the bonds between the two institutions, further the academic, social and cultural objectives of the institutions, and to promote collaboration between the faculty, staff, and students and academicians. Somaiya Vidyaviahr University offered online courses in English language, Pali and Sanskrit and also offered scholarships, summer camp workshop for students in different fields.
Vibol, Secretary of state, Ministry of Cult and Religion in the concluding remarks said through this understanding, both organizations will collaborate and coordinate in promoting research, disseminating knowledge and capacity building.
Ambassador Devyani congratulated the entire team of Preah Sihanouk Raja Buddhist University and Somaiya Vidyavihar University, Mumbai and noted that this MoU will create favorable conditions for students to study and contribute to the community as well as prepare themselves for future careers.
