Our cancer group, informally known as Sathgen, is working on the discovery of molecules for the treatment of breast and prostate cancer cells. Our focus is different, since we seek to eliminate cancer stem cells. Our drugs can work independently and in combination with other therapies for cancer treatment.
Our approach has been to chemically synthesize analogs of molecules found in nature, make more efficacious derivatives, and then screen them for anti-cancer and anti-cancer stem cell properties. We are then comparing the performance of these molecules with the industry standards such as Cisplatin.
We have found a few molecules that are doing better than the industry standards, and are working to take them through the pre-clinical phase. Recently, we have received a Government of India BIRAC Grant for one of our molecules.
